More blood

The fact of the matter is that security operations alone can never be enough to get rid of the militants. One point of the kind of attack we saw on Monday may be to demonstrate just this. The suicide bombing not only decimates lives but also makes it quite apparent that the Taliban remain intact and that their suicide squads can still be sent out at will. (thenews.com.pk)

Surprisingly, the militants’ intelligence network and coordination is way better than that of the government. Despite knowing fully well that government offices and peace meetings are potential targets, law enforcement agencies have failed to protect either. This also indicates the strong possibility of the presence of Taliban sympathisers within the ranks of the security forces, who provide accurate information on which the militants act. Killings in Mohmand

The government has to realise that it is of utmost importance to provide foolproof security to those who are willing to stake their lives for the maintenance of an orderly society. There should be more effective safety arrangements when meetings of the peace committees and tribal jirgas are summoned. Electronic detection devices should have been brought to the venue from Peshawar to provide security to the participants. Any successful terrorist mission is bound to demoralise those who would otherwise like to stand up and be counted. (pakistantoday.com.pk)

The answer to the problem continues to be an improvement in the security apparatus`s counter-terrorism capabilities, from intelligence-gathering to strengthening local police forces to better coordination among the various agencies. The high-value targets must be captured or eliminated. (dawn.com)
