HYDERABAD: The teachers and students of Sindh University (SU) and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) held separate rallies to mark Earth Day on Wednesday. The SU teachers, who led the rally in Hyderabad, highlighted the issues of population growth, deforestation and a lack of environmental safeguards. “We urgently need to grow forests to cope with the environmental dangers,” said Professor Sujomal Meghwar. The other speakers stressed that schools should sensitise their students about climate issues so that the new generation can become more environmentally conscious. The MUET rally, led by vice-chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam Uqaili, was held at the campus. Some 100 saplings were planted outside the campus hostels.
