ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said it is likely to sack a top Income Tax official of Lahore for not showing up for work after three years of vacation in Canada. Sources say it will be a herculean task to drag Additional Commissioner Inland Revenue, Regional Tax Office II Lahore, Tahir Tanveer, from Canada back to Pakistan.

Although FBR has mailed notices to Tanveer in Canada, it has issued final show cause notice for remaining absent from duty despite expiry of his ex-Pakistan leave, sources said. The officer has been asked to reply the notice otherwise he could be dismissed from service.

The officer, while posted in Lahore, was granted 1,095 days ex-Pakistan leave from December 27, 2011, FBR sources told Express Investigation Cell. On expiry of leave, Tanveer failed to report on duty.
