LAHORE:

The World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) will celebrate Earth Day in Pakistan on April 22 to promote conservation among people by symbolically tackling deforestation by planting trees at educational institutions.

“This year, plantation drives will be carried out at a number of schools, colleges and universities so that environmental awareness can be raised among students,” the WWF-Pakistan said in a statement. Various schools, colleges and universities that have partnered with WWF-Pakistan’s Green School Programme and International Eco Internship Programme will also participate in the plantation drive, it said.

It said the drive would be launched at Kinnaird College for Women University on April 21 and at Beaconhouse School System, Johar Town Junior Campus, on April 22.

“We rely on earth’s resources for survival. On Earth Day 2015, we will plant trees in educational institutions to promote a curb on our heavy dependence on environmental resources, which will sensitise our youth to show support for conservation of the environment,” said Anwar Naseem, WWF-Pakistan Corporate Relations and Operations senior director.
