Executive district officers were given control of street lights and interim walk-through gates.

KARACHI: City Administrator Fazlur Rehman visited the areas where the Muharram processions and majalis would be held on Tuesday.

He visited the Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar and made inquires about the arrangements. Directives were issued to CDGK officials to stay in contact with other agencies, religious scholars and representatives of key NGOs to ensure safety and security. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, including its chief engineer, was asked to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the participants of majalis and processions. Engineers were also asked to provide water bowsers.

Executive district officers were given control of street lights and interim walk-through gates. City wardens will assist the capital city traffic police for traffic management and quick response. The fire brigade, ambulance and command and control centre have been placed under the control of Rangers and Capital City Police already.

Information minister Raza Haroon visited the same imambargah and Nishtar Park to inspect the main routes of the Ashura procession. Nishtar Park and MA Jinnah Road have been linked to the central command system through CCTV cameras.

MH | 13 years ago | Reply I love Shias. They're some of my best friends, and I respect the majlis. The people that I know however practice in their homes, and they don't play loud songs past 2 am at night. Since yesterday, the loudspeakers that keep blaring are driving me insane. Feels like a hammer to my head from the morning till night. CIA's water-boarding experts, take note, there's a lesson here.
