LAHORE: All provincial laws are now accessible online at a Punjab Law Portal set up by the Punjab Information Technology Board in collaboration with the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department.

The Portal, available at the link: http://www.punjabcode.punjab.gov.pk/, went online last week on Tuesday.

The portal contains all legislation, including amendments, passed by the Provincial Assembly since 1860. Laws are listed at the portal in alphabetical and chronological order and also with reference to the department concerned. Urdu translation of laws passed since 1947 is also available.

Besides legislations, the portal contains other Punjab gazette entries (notifications issued by the provincial government including those for official appointments), the Punjab Services Rules, the Constitution of Pakistan and Punjab Assembly’s rules of business.

Talking to The Express Tribune, PITB Chairman Dr Umar Saif said the portal would help spread awareness about the laws that governed the affairs of the province. He said the citizens could hold the government accountable only if they had access to all information about their rights and responsibilities.

He said the portal would be particularly useful for lawyers, judges, public servants, journalists, students and researchers.
