QUETTA:

Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan has claimed it foiled plan of a major terrorist attack in Quetta and the bordering town of Chaman by arresting two terrorists along with a huge quantity of explosives.

The FC spokesman Khan Wassy told The Express Tribune that the paramilitary force on Friday carried out a search operation at a compound in Roghani area of Chaman, which shares border with Afghanistan, and arrested two alleged terrorists.

“During the raid, we also recovered from their custody a vehicle laden with 1,200 kg of explosives as well as three suicide jackets,” said Wassy. He said investigations were underway as to whether the two terrorists are transporters or potential attackers, adding that the men were shifted to an undisclosed location for questioning.

“They were planning to use explosive material and suicide jackets for mass destruction in Quetta and Chaman but the FC foiled their terror bid,” the spokesman said.

In his statement, the FC spokesman claimed that earlier the FC also carried out targeted search operation in different parts of Balochistan on secret information and recovered remote control bomb, explosives, and detonators.

“These items came from a neighbouring country to be used in terrorist activities in Balochistan,” he said.

The FC Balochistan’s Inspector General Sher Afgan has applauded the FC’s ‘brave attempt’ and reiterated the resolve to stamp out terrorism from Balochistan.
