Commissioner Saqib Zafar said on Thursday that Rs420 million had been released for construction of 31 roads in Cholistan in accordance with the chief minister-announced developmental package for the region.


Zafar said 13 roads would be constructed in Bahawalpur, 13 in Rahim Yar Khan and five in Rahim Yar Khan. He instructed officials to ensure quality standards and on-time construction of the roads.

Progress on initiatives taken under the chief minister’s roadmaps for the education and health sectors were also reviewed at the meeting. Zafar said officials should ensure teacher attendance at institutions by frequently visiting schools. He said provision of basic facilities such as clean drinking water, electricity and furniture should be ensured at institutions.

The DCO also reviewed the performance of Health Department officials on the occasion. He said a comprehensive plan should be formulated to ensure presence of doctors and other staff at basic health units. Zafar said provision of medicines should be ensured at BHUs in remote areas. The DCO said provision of quality medical facilities should be made certain in remote areas. He said no laxity would be tolerated on this account.

Zafar also reviewed progress on the computerisation of land records on the occasion. He directed officials to ensure that weapons licences were quickly authenticated.
