Six workers killed after falling into chemical tank in Karachi factory

Factory workers fell into tank after opening its cap to inspect suspicious smell; deceased include factory owner

KARACHI: At least six workers died after falling into a chemical tank of a pickle factory in Karachi’s Korangi area on Sunday, police said.

According to initial reports, two to three workers fell into the tank after opened its cap to inspect a suspicious smell. In a bid to rescue them, more labourers plunged in.

However, the exact cause of the incident is being investigated.

Bodies of six men were taken out of the tank under supervision of local police, and rescue officials, whereas one of the workers miraculously survived. He has been shifted to the Jinnah Hospital.

Factory owner Mehtab is also believed to be one of the deceased, while most of the other victims are said to be his relatives. All victims were residents of Dehli colony.

The factory is illegally located in Darus Salam Housing Society, a residential area in Korangi.
