Facebook removes pictures of baby born without a nose for being 'too controversial'

Ban on pictures was lifted after boy's mother wrote a post about her son, whom she calls "the most beautiful boy"

Doctors hope to drill nasal passages in the boy’s skull for him to be able to breathe when he is older.

Facebook’s recent decision to remove photos of a premature boy without nasal passages or sinus cavities, terming them "controversial", infuriated the boy's mother, for whom her son is "the most beautiful boy".

Timothy Eli Thompson was born to Brandi McGlathery and Troy Thompson on March 4, with a rare condition that affects only one in 197 million babies.

A pro-life group posted a photograph of Eli, which went viral, before Facebook decided to take it down for being "too controversial".

McGlathery, however, wrote a post of the removal of her son's pictures, which was shared over 30,000 times and numerous complaints left to the ban being lifted.

"I posted the status with a link about it saying no one's going to keep me from posting photos of my child. If I can see completely distasteful things on Facebook all day long, then I can post a picture of my son," McGlathery said. "He was everywhere and he broke the internet!"

Eli has had to undergo a tracheotomy when he was only five days old. In order for him to be able to breathe when he is older, doctors are expected to drill nasal passages in his skull.

Eli has a long way to go with many surgeries lined up for him. A family friend set up a GoFundMe page to help his parents pay for his care.

McGlathery said, "He will have to have a tracheotomy & a feeding bag inserted into his stomach, which is also not what I expected."

“My biggest fear for Eli is that the world won't see him as the beautiful, brave little boy that I see him as,” she added.

The concerned mother regularly posts updates of her baby’s progress on the Facebook page -- Eli's Story, be it his test results or joys of seeing him for the first time without an oral respirator as well as giving him a bath for the first time.
