LAHORE:

Over a hundred amateur as well as professional photographers on Saturday participated in the first photo walk of the year organised by the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA).

WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari told The Express Tribune that the initiative was a way of engaging youngsters in the Walled City not only to promote tourism but of also acquainting them with their culture and heritage. WCLA Marketing and Media Deputy Director Tanya Qureshi said organising photo walks was a new way of promoting tourism and culture in the digital age.

Fatima Gillani, one of the participants, said taking photographs was one of her hobbies. She said she had visited the area earlier with her family. Gillani said she had not been given the opportunity to explore the area to its fullest on the occasions. She said the photo walk had afforded her the chance. “The participants were divided into groups and provided guides. They took us around and informed the participants about the significance of each place,” Gillani said.

Photographer Umer Javed, another participant, said photographing the same objects in groups was more interesting as each member brought a unique perspective and technique with themselves. Muhammad Muneeb Riaz, another participant, echoed his views.

He said the initiative was a great way of exploring the Walled City and learning from professional photographers participating in the photo walk. Riaz said this was especially true with regard to sharing tips and ideas.

The photo walk commenced at the Delhi Gate and concluded at the Fort Road Food Street with a traditional lunch. The WCLA organises four photo walks annually.
