FAISALABAD:

Additional Sessions Judge Iftikharun Nabi sentenced a man convicted of murder to death on Saturday.

Prosecution said Muhammad Atif, a resident of D-Type Colony, and his accomplice Muhammad Asif had shot dead Muhammad Umar, his neighbour, after an argument in 2009.

The judge sentenced Atif to death and directed him to pay Rs500,000 compensation to the deceased’s family. Asif was acquitted on benefit of doubt.

Separately, an anti-terrorism court on Saturday awarded life imprisonment on two counts to a man convicted of abduction for ransom.

Prosecution said Nasir Javaid had abducted 13-year-old Adeel Kashif and had received Rs1 million for his release. Police later arrested him in a raid. Javaid was then sentenced to life after he was found guilty.
