KARACHI: The Sindh High Court put the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) chairperson Nasreen Haq, the federal secretary, the ports and shipping department and other respondents on notice on Monday for December 10 in a petition filed by KPT’s former general manager (GM), administration, Rauf Akhtar Farooqui.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Khwaja Shamsul Islam, submitted that his client was appointed GM through a notification issued by the prime minister on June 23.

He said that Haq’s attitude had been “extremely hostile, non-cooperative and arrogant” from the beginning. The petitioner said that on July 9, she visited his office and on being told of the difficulties he was facing, she insulted him. Later, he was relieved from the KPT by its board of trustees.

He maintained that neither the board nor the chairperson had the authority to relieve him. The court was also asked to declare that the KPT chairperson was not the competent authority to change the status of the petitioner.
