Damaged line: Clifton face 60% water shortage

Areas facing acute shortage of water after the main water line was destroyed.

KARACHI: A number of areas in Old Clifton are facing an acute shortage of water after the main water line — which lies under the Do Talwar monument — was destroyed.

These areas, including 70-Clifton, Neelam Colony, Park Lane, Gizri and Shah Lateef Colony, are facing a water shortage of more than 60 per cent after two six-inch-wide water lines were recently blocked due to damage.

According to Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) they are making all possible efforts to clear the blockage with the use of heavy pumps, but the obstructed lines are yet to be cleared. Till the situation is resolved, water is being supplied to Old Clifton through one of the lines, which also passes under the monument.

“We cannot remove the Do Talwar, so the KWSB has decided to lay down a new 12-inch-wide water line from the Plaza to the Clifton water pumping station. This will match the previous water supply system,” he said, adding, “KWSB is making all possible efforts to ensure that the ongoing work does not take longer than a week.”
