Curricula: ‘Syllabi should cover basic rights’

The lawyer had submitted that citizens were not aware of their fundamental rights

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the Punjab Textbook Board (PTB) chairman to decide within a month on a submission of a lawyer about making fundamental rights of citizens, enshrined in the Constitution, a necessary part of the syllabi. Justice Ayesha A Malik passed the order disposing of a petition filed by Advocate Sheraz Zaka. The lawyer had submitted that citizens were not aware of their fundamental rights protected by the Constitution. He said inclusion of constitutional articles related to basic rights in the syllabus was essential. The judge directed the board chairman to decide on the matter within a month.
