LAHORE:

Lahore High Court on Friday sought a report from the Punjab government regarding fire safety measures taken at public sector hospitals in the province.

Advocate Noshab A Khan had filed a petition questioning the lack of safety measures at hospitals in the wake of deaths of 10 infants in a fire that erupted at nursery in Services Hospital in 2012. Earlier, a report stating that effective safety measures had been taken at 97 public hospitals in the province was submitted in court on behalf of the health secretary.

It said fire-fighting equipment had been installed at these hospitals and a safety-officer was appointed for each health facility.

Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan observed that citizens required proper health facilities, education and drinking water rather than carpeted roads. The judge directed the health secretary to submit a detailed report on May 25regarding fire safety measures taken at the hospitals.
