MULTAN:

Scores of relatives of a man shot dead on April 3 blocked Indus Highway for traffic at Pul Shoria for nearly three hours on Friday to protest against police for allegedly protecting his killers.

Fida Hussain told The Express Tribune that his 25-year-old son Muhammad Naeem had gone to visit his maternal cousin Kulsoom Bibi on April 3 where he was shot dead by her brothers.

He said he had filed an FIR and had nominated Mohsin, Ali, Anwar, Kulsoom and Anam.

He said a week later, he had submitted an application to Dera Ghazi Khan RPO Rehmatullah Niazi and DPO Ghulam Mubashir Maiken.

“I wrote in my application that police were not investigating the killing and arresting the suspects,” he said. “I asked them to look into the matter but no action was taken.”Fida Hussain and his relatives and residents of the area blamed Gadai police officials for not arresting the suspects. They blocked the road from the highway to Jampur.

The protesters chanted slogans against police and urged the government to take notice of their incompetence and negligence.

Later, DSP Saleem Niazi met the protesters and assured them that the case would be investigated and the suspects would be arrested soon.

The protesters dispersed on receiving the assurance.

Illegal weapons seized from ex-SHO’s house

A large cache of weapons was seized from the house of a former Batala Colony SHO on Friday.

A police spokesman said a team of law enforcement agencies had raided Farrukh Waheed’s house in Gulistan Colony and seized a large number of weapons and seized a number of motorbikes from the house. He said the team had also seized electronic items including CCTV cameras.

He said the former SHO was suspected of involvement in the killing of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders Asghar Ali Bhola Gujjar, Rana Zeeshan alias Shani and Khurrami Bajwa. He said Waheed was believed to have fled abroad.

He said police had included Waheed’s gunman Rana Tahir, former nazim Anjum Niaz Toor and one Mehr Tahir in investigation.
