Cruelty to animals

It is our duty to protect animals from extinction and to treat them humanely.

Letter April 07, 2015

KARACHI: Animals are subjected to cruelty in several ways in our country for which there is no justification. One of these is through the hunting of animals. How can we justify the killing of animals just for fun? Animals are regularly poached for their skin, teeth, bones, etc. A large number of elephants are killed for ivory and snakes, tigers, lions etc. are killed for their skin.

The plight of domestic animals is no better. Most animals kept in zoos are ill-fed and over-strained. Animals, like donkeys and bullocks, are treated in a merciless manner in order to make them pull heavy loads. Some animals are forced to provide entertainment for people. Animals are man’s friend. They play a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance. It is our duty to protect them from extinction and to treat them humanely. Doing so is also necessary for protection of the environment. We should stop our cruelty towards animals.
