Yuvraj Singh’s father blasts 'arrogant' MS Dhoni

Yograj Singh said the World Cup winning captain stole the moment of glory from his son in 2011

KARACHI: Left-hand Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj Singh came out on a news channel to blast Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni saying there will be a day when he will have to beg, reported Times Of India.

"Dhoni was nothing," said Yograj.

"He has become a God in cricket just because of media. Media has crowned him as a great which he never deserved."

"There was a time when he had nothing but today he sits in front of media and rips off the media persons. He laughs at media who has given him so much hype. He laughs at the Indian people who clap when he scores a run.

"Honestly, if I were a media person, I would have slapped Dhoni right there."

Yuvraj, immediately took to twitter and clarified his stance that, he, in no way, supports his father's claims.

Yograj didn't just stop there and compared Dhoni with the mythical villain Ravana.

"Dhoni is arrogant. The way Ravana's proud came to an end, Dhoni will also suffer some day. He considers himself much above Ravana," said Yuvraj's father.

"I feel really ashamed when other cricketers come and tell me about Dhoni. Earlier, I used to think that people must be cribbing about Dhoni due to jealousy. But when the cricketers told me about him, I think I have never seen a terrible person like him ever in my life.

"In the 2011 final, Yuvraj was going to bat but Dhoni stopped him and went to bat and became a hero. Why didn't he bat at No. 4 this time? Why did he go at No. 6? If he considers himself great, then he should have batted at No. 6 and guided India to a win against the Aussies."

abhi | 9 years ago | Reply @Imran Hanif Though Imran Khan played a good inning in 1992 but if you compare it with Dhoni's inning against Shri Lanka you can clearly see the difference. Pakistan was batting first while Dhoni came during chase which has more pressure specially when target is high. Pakistan made a mediocre score and Imran didn't play through the inning he got out and it was other batsmen who took the score to a decent total. Dhoni made sure that he remain at crease and see India through.

Ammar | 9 years ago | Reply May be Mr. Yograj has observed something(s), may be this is his honest opinion, or may be he is saying (what he is saying) purely out of the love for his son. But fact remains; Dhoni is the best thing ever happened to Indian cricket full stop

Imran Hanif | 9 years ago | Reply @abhi It takes a lion’s heart to make that brave decision which Imran Khan made in that high pressure situation of 1992 WC Final against English team. Dhoni might have been a great individual on the face, though one need to be close enough to him in order to gauge his much publicized greatness, but he surely lacks courage and steely nerves when the crunch situation again propped up in alien and tough conditions of MCG. Sometime I do also think that MS Dhoni is a Hulk Hogan of Cricket, desperate for attention, spotlight, engaging in shenanigans-cum-dirty politics of influence and media attention. In short MS Dhoni is full of gimmicks with pretty less substance of greatness as contrary to his image which one could view in the hyperbolic Indian media.

abhi | 9 years ago | Reply @observer In previous 2 world cup innings he played significant role in India's win. Against australia also he was the only batsman who showed some resistance but he didn't get any help from other end. It is easy to comment from sidelines and tough to perform. The way he anchored the inning agianst Shri Lanka in 2011 was superb and it is not easy to do it just because it is your own backyard, please recall world cup 1996 and what happened to Indian inning in our own backyard. BTW Imran couldn't do it in his own backyard.

Observer | 9 years ago | Reply As much as I'd like to disagree with him, I totally concur with what he said in the last paragraph. Dhoni's selfish side came out during the 2015 WC, if he has that good a captain and player as he's made out to be, why didn't he bat up the order. Quite easy to do in your own backyard as he did in '11 WC but it takes a real leader like Imran Khan to do it in Aussie conditions. He was probably the only captain who did not fear failure.
