Development spending: Rural roads programme inaugurated in Bahawalpur

15 metaled roads to be built in the first phase.

BAHALWALPUR: Minister for Cooperatives Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar on Monday inaugurated the Punjab Rural Roads Programme in Bahalwalpur.

Talking to newsmen, he said 15 metalled roads would be constructed in the first phase. He said Rs454 million had been budgeted in this regard.

He said roads would be at least 12-feet wide and built in accordance with international standards.

Channar said the project aimed to facilitate farmers and rural populations. He said the government hoped to reduce distances between cities so that business activity could flourish.

Developing roads

The minister said a five-kilometre long road would be built from Abbasia Link Canal Road to Sultan Wah through Khurrampur at a cost of Rs30 million.

The minister said the same amount would be spent on the construction a road from Chakki Mor to Sultan Wah.

He said a two-kilometre long road from Adda Mochiwala to Khurrampur would be repaired at a cost of Rs17 million.

Channar said a road between Panjnad Canal to Union Council Bakhtiari would be constructed at a cost of Rs28 million.

He said a four-kilometre long road between Chowk Bhutta to Sultan Wah would be constructed at a cost of Rs28 million.

He said the government would build a road from Mubarakpur Chowk to Garhi Kaandhi and had budged Rs24 million in this regard.

The minister said a road between Khanqah Sharif to Samma Satta would be constructed at a cost of Rs24 million.

He said the government would build another road from Musafirkhana to Goth Mehrab at a cost of Rs34 million.

The minister said the Hasilpur-Bahawalpur Road to Basti Tara Garh would be repaired at a cost of Rs19 million.

He said a stretch between Hasilpur-Bahawalpur Road and Chak 7BC would be repaired at a cost of Rs13 million.
