PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Finance Muzaffar Syed has constituted a committee headed by the additional secretary of the finance department to explore areas of mutual interest between the provincial government and Huawei Technologies – a Chinese firm.

According to a handout issued by the K-P government on Monday, the minister said that Pakistan and China are time-tested friends and that is why the provincial government will welcome any move for the establishment of strategic partnerships to further enhance cooperation and mutual understanding.

The delegates informed that Huawei had emerged as a leading global Information Communication Technology (ICT) provider, covering more than one-third of the world with market penetration in 170 countries.

They further expressed interest in establishing partnerships with the government of K-P in other avenues to extract the maximum potential the province possesses. They said they are willing to provide technical and financial support in ICT, education and capacity building in the province along with other benefits of forming business partnerships.

Syed assured full support of the provincial government for cooperation between the firm and the relevant sectors that can benefit.  “This is a good opportunity for both of us and we will make the most of it,” he said.

He asked for convening a joint meeting of the executives of the concerned sectors and the firms’ representatives to further facilitate the offer. He concluded by saying that no obstacle will hinder the progress of the deal, and there will be all-out efforts to further mutual cooperation.

The Chinese delegation met the provincial finance minister at the Civil Secretariat. The delegation was led by Huawei Vice President Jacky Zhang, while representatives of the finance, home and housing departments were also present.
