Zaid overpowers Hamza to reach final

Pindi-born player will meet Haris in title-decider of national tennis event

KARACHI: Zaid Mujahid cruised into the final of the Pakistan Tennis Federation’s (PTF) Development Series Juniors National Championship U18 singles event at the PTF Complex in Islamabad.

Zaid defeated Hamza bin Asif 7-6, 6-4 in the semi-final to book his place in the final with Haris Irfanul Haq.

Meanwhile, Haris reached the U16 singles final by outplaying Hamza bin Rehan 6-3, 6-3.

In the U14 singles semi-finals, Abdul Sami defeated Muneeb Sajid 6-2, 6-1, while Osama Khan overcame Abdul Wahab 6-2, 6-2.

The championship will continue on Monday with the U16 and U14 finals while the U18 title-decider will be played on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the PTF has sent the U16 boys’ team, along with coach Asim Shafik to Australia, where they will be competing in the Junior Davis Cup qualifiers on April 8.
