LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge on Saturday allowed a man to live with his brother after he was recovered from his wife’s ‘detention’.

Syed Muhammad Waseem Abbas had filed a habeas corpus petition saying that his brother Syed Ali Raza had started working at Mehwash’s house. He accused her of detaining his brother.

He said Mehwash would not allow Raza to meet his family. He said he had requested her to ‘release’ his brother but she did not. He said she had threatened him with dire consequences when he had tried to see Raza.

The court tasked a bailiff and the SHO to produce Raza on Saturday.

The bailiff told the court he had recovered Raza from her home. Mehwash told him that Raza was her husband and not an employee. She said she had married Raza seven months ago and that she was four months pregnant, the bailiff said.

Raza admitted that Mehwash was his wife. But, he said, she had detained him and would beat him with help from her servants. He said she would not let him leave the house or meet his family. Raza told the bailiff he did not want to live with her.

He told the court he did not feel safe at her house and that he wanted to live with his brother. The court allowed him to leave with his brother and disposed of the petition.
