ISLAMABAD: The Board of Governors of Islamic International University (IIU) will discuss the appointment of the university’s new president at its meeting on Monday. The meeting is being held in response to a letter received by the Board of Governors (BoGs) alleging that IIU President Dr Anwar Hussain Siddiqui is receiving twice the amount of his contracted salary.

The letter was sent by the former Head of Department of Environmental Science and Dr Siddiqui’s close aide, Dr Muhammad Irfan.

Dr Siddiqui was appointed president of IIU on December 27,2006 by former President Musharraf. His term will end on December 20 this year.

The letter cited a contract that stated that Dr Siddiqui was entitled to draw a consolidated salary of Rs200,000 per month – inclusive of all allowances – and to receive an annual increment of Rs8,000. However, according to his last month’s salary slips (also enclosed in the letter) Dr Siddiqui had received salary of Rs475,880.

The total salary comprised Rs267,200 in consolidated pay, dearness allowance of Rs30,000, adhoc relief of Rs40,080, adhoc allowance of Rs133,600 and qualification allowance of Rs5,000.

Dr Irfan alleged that the president is embezzling an extra amount of Rs260,716 per month with his salary
with the cooperation of vice president of admin and finance, along with additional director finance.

He said that appointment of Dr Siddiqui is on consolidated salary inclusive of all allowances and hence is not entitled to any other allowance. But he is the only person in IIU who has been receiving dearness allowances since his appointment without approval of BoGs.

He added that other than Dr Sidddui, no other contract employee of IIU is being paid dearness or adhoc relief allowances.
