The Islamabad High Court (IHC) is expected to announce its verdict on a petition challenging the jurisdiction of anti-terrorism courts (ATC) in Rawalpindi and Islamabad today (Friday).
The court reserved its judgement on Thursday.
The issue surfaced after a defence counsel in a double murder and triple murder case requested stay of execution of death sentence saying that his client was sentenced by a Rawalpindi ATC but the death warrants were issued by an ATC in Islamabad.
The bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Aamer Farooq reversed the verdict after the counsels concluded their arguments.
The court had stayed executions in both the cases as the jurisdiction of the anti-terrorism courts was being argued.
Questions such as if the Rawalpindi or Islamabad ATCs were de-notified or if any court was abolished then who will be the successor in office arose in the arguments.
