KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has formed an inquiry team to investigate the issue of fake prisoners in various detention facilities in Karachi and other districts. “We have learnt that ghost prisoners are living in jails in the place of those who have been sentenced by the court,” said the CM. The investigation team will comprise DIG Ghulam Sarwar Jamali, special home secretary Shafique Shaikh, representatives from the National Database and Registration Authority and Rangers personnel. Sources privy to the development told The Express Tribune that two prisoners from Karachi Central Jail and Malir jail had written letters to the home department a few days ago, complaining that they have been jailed in lieu of the real offenders. “Around 41 such cases were detected last year and the government has now decided to start a biometric system in jail,” said CM House spokesperson.
