The hearing today comes just a day after customs officials deemed her proof of currency ownership as dubious following interrogation. Her property dealer Mumtaz was made a part of the probe following her claims that the money was earned after selling her five properties.

The court questioned about the B-class facilities for Ayyan, to which, senior official of the investigation team,  Zargham Khan, said that a person booked under the Customs Act is not entitled to B-class facilities.

The court was also informed that investigation was underway and that an FIR would soon be submitted. The court ordered for the FIR to be submitted by April 11.

Talking to reporters, Khan said the customs case is clear and it had been proved “she was going abroad along with the cash. Attempting to smuggle is equivalent to smuggling.”

Ayyan’s property dealer earlier submitted documents which are being verified and will be produced at the next hearing.

“Punishment in a smuggling case is five to 14 years imprisonment if convicted” Khan said.

He further added that Ayyan had paid 14 visits to UAE and the rest to Malaysia and other countries. Another senior official said any kind of dealing in foreign currency is not allowed without the permission and involvement of the State Bank.

    This is really sad to hear. But can the father expose why he is being a target? What were the dead threads on? I’m curious. Girl so young and bold with a such a promising career being wrecked.Recommend

    He must be given proper protection. Obviously he has information to implicate some big fish, hence the intimidation tactics. Recommend

    Very simple case. She had to take this money abroad for Rehman Malik / his brother — she couldn’t / got caught in the act. Now they want their money back and, like any mafia, aren’t afraid to use violence till they do.Recommend

    @Hatim: Are you really naive or being sarcastic? Parties in power use the police/rangers while those in opposition have no other choice but use militants. IT takes two (atleast two) to make a quarrel :) Recommend

    @Observer What does her father or her have to do with Rehman Malik? If Rehman wanted to send his stolen stash abroad, he could have used low profile people to do it. Why someone who high class and popular. Afaik, it was her money. Recommend

    @Atheist_Pakistani

    Ayyan was known to frequent his place in Khi.

    He visited her in jail on the first / second day. He tried to get her transferred to Karachi Central Jail (where the PPP govt is ruling and could have gotten her VIP privileges and other concessions)… they were definitely using her as a mule. Women often don’t get checked very vigorously, especially those who travel often.Recommend

    @Atheist_Pakistani What dumb logic honestly. A “low profile” person is far more likely to be checked thoroughly than a famous supermodel. Only you can be dimwitted enough to think a normal person would get away easier than a celebrity with 500,000 USD.Recommend
