NEW YORK: Pakistan’s permanent representative at the UN, Dr Maleeha Lodhi, told the Security Council that violence and attacks targeting children were on the rise globally and should be universally condemned as well as prevented. She was participating in a Security Council debate initiated by France on children and armed conflict with focus on child victims of non-state armed groups. In her statement, Ambassador Lodhi recalled the attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar, describing this as one of the most atrocities perpetrated against children. She pointed out that children are also victims of brute force in several situations of foreign occupation. “No one can forget the images of what happened last year to the children of Gaza,” she added.
