Governor Taseer says information provided by WikiLeaks carries no more weight than drawing room gossip.

LAHORE: Wikileaks is part of a dangerous game to break the country, the newly-appointed Punjab president of the Pakistan Peoples Party Imtiaz Safdar Warraich said on Friday.

He was addressing a press conference organised at the Governor’s House to introduce him to the public. Governor Salmaan Taseer and senior PPP leaders including Senior Minister Raja Riaz were also present. Governor Taseer said that people needed to understand that the leaked documents were not coming from an official source. He said that the information provided in the WikiLeaks carried no more weight than drawing room gossip. Earlier, Warraich said his goal was to prepare the party workers for the up-coming local elections and eventually form government in the province after the 2013 general elections. He said that PPP had a large enough vote bank in the province, it only needed to organise its workers.

Warraich said that the party would always give importance to the role of youth in politics, adding that they would play the most important role in the next general elections.

He lamented that there was still a ban on student unions on university campuses but said the youth now had a right to vote and they should exercise this right to play their role in the country’s politics.

The new PPP president criticised the provincial government for poor administration. He said, “Whoever is in power should be held accountable.”

He said that the government was using task forces for jobs for which there had always been regular departments.

To a question about allegations of aerial firing by PPP workers during a rally he led in Gujranwala, Warraich said that there were fireworks but no shooting.

it is ridiculous to say that wikileaks is part of dangerous game and to break up country. how illinformed are pakistani leaders. governor taseer claims that information provided in wikileaks carried no more weight than drawing room gossip. is it a gossip that us ambassdor patterson informing washington that zardari said he is afraid that he woul be assassinated and he has instructed bilawal to nominate his sister frayal talpur as president. is it a gossip that army chief gen kiyani goes to meet us ambassador four times in six days and telling her that he is thinking to force zardari to resign and his is against holding fresh elections as he does not want that nawaz sahrif could come to power. isi chief gen pasha telling americans in oct 2009 that he has warned isralis that their assets in india would be attacked .is it wikileaks conspiracy against pakistan and exposure of pakistani leaders betryal of their country.Recommend

I don’t think wikileaks is a conspiracy. The info is mostly true… but it is definitely biased. There seems to be an awful lot of embarrassing things about Pakistan and not as embarrassing things about other countries.

At the end of the day, conspiracy against Pakistan or not, Pakistan makes it all to easy for anyone to malign Pakistan because we do more then half the job ourselves. So I think we need to focus on fixing ourselves first, and then it wont be so easy for anyone to point fingers at or embarrass Pakistan. Recommend

You guys cant sleep if u dont compare yourself with India for anything and everything. Pl wait.Only a percentage of the cables are posted. I am waiting for the cables and comments behind the Indian Nuclear Deal with the US. Nothing juicy about the army and religious brigades are expected as there are not interesting and damaging in India barring a few riots and murder mayhems. More interesting will be the stories in Bollywood, if u care to listen to. Recommend

It’s absolutely not a conspiracy against Pakistan or the Muslim World. Its just another facet of the American strategic plan to widen its wings from Afghanistan to All the Muslim World.Pakistan is just a mile-stone on their way to ‘The Change’ – simple. RAW, MOSSAD, CIA and everyone who is interested in dominance over Muslims is sharpening their teeth in this pursuit. Its about to come, wikileaks is the ‘trumpet’ if you understand. And all the Muslims are just sleeping.Recommend

When the new President of Punjab PPP himself says that the information provided in the
WikiLeaks carry no more weight than drawing room gossips, then hearty thanks are due to the new pilot of Punjab PPP for his timely (insider’s) information. But then one wonders at his strange conclusion/remarks that this “drawing-room gossip” could be a part of dangerous game to break the country??????? God forbid. Here one would like to request the worthy politicians, our political actors, to please stop your acting for ever and plz, please, please have faith, full faith in the entity of motherland, known to the world as Pakistan and which was created by the people under the inspiring leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. And if the rulers, who ruled the country in unbriddeled manner, for the last fifty years had understood the democratic desires, demands, feelings and yearnings of the poor masses and had performed their functions/duties according to their election slogans and promises, then no power on earth would have broken or weaken the beloved motherland. One hundred and eighty million Pakistanis can make the motherland a model state for the rest of the world. But for that the real rulers had to give the people their natural rights to live an honorable life as human beings. So plz have confidence in your own-self and also be faithful–as ordained by our religion—“hubbul wattan-e-minal emaan”, that is– love of motherland is part of our faith. As such, accordingly Pakistan is destined to play its due role to serve and guide the rest of mankind, Insha’allah. Recommend
