SHIKARPUR: The local body elections in March or April 2011 will be conducted on the basis of the previous census because there isn’t enough time to hold a new one, said Sindh Minister for Local Government, Agha Siraj Durrani, while talking to the media at DCO’s secretariat on Thursday evening.

The minister said that the Sindh government will form a new Sindh Election Commission to hold local body elections in the province and voters’ registration will start soon.

On another note, he said that the rehabilitation work will start shortly after drainage work ends on December 15.

In the first phase of rehabilitation, the government will address the immediate needs of the displaced people by providing tents, blankets and rations. Farmers will get certified wheat seed and fertiliser is also being provided. PPI
