ECP issues LG polls schedule for cantonment areas

ISLAMABAD: After persistent pressure from the Supreme Court, local government elections in 42 cantonment areas of the country will be held on April 25, after a gap of 17 years.

According to notifications and code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday, the election process will commence from March 23 with a notification from returning officers (ROs). Contesting candidates can file their nomination papers from March 29 to 31.

ROs will scrutinise the nominations from April 2 to 4, and the final list of contestants will be put on display on March 11, after completing all formalities.

April 25 is scheduled as polling day, with the final results due to be notified on April 28.

There are a total of 42 cantonments spread throughout the country, which are divided into wards according to their size; and biggest ones have 10 wards.
