Training for parents of children with ADD

Speaker highlights prevailing ignorance amongst parents who confuse mental challenges with learning disabilities.

KARACHI: The government should set up information centres for parents in public schools on the nature, causes, and treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), said the chairperson of the Foundation for Rehabilitation and Education of Special Children, Ashba Kamran, while speaking at a seminar organised for the International Day for People with Disabilities.

She drew attention to the rise in learning disabilities in children, particularly in rural areas, and the prevailing ignorance that causes parents to confuse mental challenges with a learning disability.

As a result, the number of children dropping out of schools is increasing. Kamran said the government should appoint experts to educate parents on the concept of ADD and advise them to take their children to schools and educational institutions working on the rehabilitation of challenged learners.

According to her, standardised tests are established worldwide to assess the learning strength of children. PRESS RELEASE
