KARACHI:

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inaam Memon announced on Friday that the Pakistan Peoples Party will contact all political parties in the Senate for the election of the chairman of the upper house.

Talking to the media at the inauguration of the Water and Sewerage Board Complaint Cell, Memon said: “The senior leadership of the party has yet to announce the name of the candidate for Senate chairman.”

Regarding talks with his party’s former ally Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the minister said that Rahman Malik has been tasked to lure Muttahida back into the Sindh government.

“Talks with the MQM are going on in a friendly manner and we want them to rejoin the Sindh government,” he said.

Asked whether it was true that the PPP Karachi president was seeking political asylum in foreign countries, Memon said the news is incorrect. “Qadir Patel is a senior member of party and there are no cases against him. Why should he seek political asylum?”asked  the Sindh information minister.
