Police take action against electricity wastage

LAHORE: The Lahore Police launched a crackdown against people not adhering to the government's guidelines on power usage on Thursday.

The Lahore district government has set up more than 300 police teams in union councils and 18 teams in nine towns. The teams have been directed to take strict action against anyone found wasting electricity.

Raids have already been carried out in marriage halls in Harbans Pura and Fatah Garh, and have fined the owners for using excessive electricity.

All unnecesarry lights outside petrol pumps and shops were also turned off by the teams.

All shop owners have been warned of further police action if wastage of electricity is not halted.

Rehan Haque | 14 years ago | Reply I wouldn't have an issue with the Government (be it Federal or Provincial) trying to get people to conserve electricity, if the heads of the governments were also subjected to the same torture that the general public is. Does the Aiwan-e-Sadar, the Prime Minister's Secretariat or the MNA Hostel, get the same treatment, when it comes to electricity load-shedding, that the rest of us do? We live in a hell-hole, all because of these at the top.

Majid | 14 years ago | Reply This is another attempt by a shoddy govt to pass the buck to the awam. Instead of wasting police time and intimidating the people who are incidentally PAYING for the electricity they use, the govt should immediately start producing electricity from the existing WAPDA powerhouses which are lying idle and stop further privitisation (read BIG COMMISSION and KICKBACKS) to rental power and IPP's. Its a complete failure that after two years of being in power, this shambles of a govt is telling the people that they are now initiating projects which will take three to five years to complete. They simply dont care about the people and the people have nothing but hatred for this "peoples" govt.

These measures should be adopted not only all cites and all waste of precious electricity should be prohibited. I urge media to podcast creative messages to create much needed awareness for the illiterate masses.
