Revenue generation: Driving licence fee hike expected

The provincial government has decided to raise driving licence fee by Rs250 across the province.

A summary in this regard, sent by the Punjab police inspector general’s office to the Home Department, has been forwarded with recommendations to the chief minister for approval. The summary states that the government had constituted a committee under MPA Zaeem Qadri to draw up a plan for raising driving licence fee. The committee had proposed to raise the fee by Rs 180. The summary says that the recommendation could not be implemented.

It has now been recommended that the fee be raised by Rs250 on each driving licence. The summary notes that the additional revenue generated would help police the meet expenditure incurred on issuance of driving licences. Police would also be able to meet its revenue targets, the summary says.

The summary said of the extra Rs250, Rs30 would be paid to the NADRA for CNIC verification, Rs100 would be spent on delivery to the applicant’s home and Rs120 on making computerised licenses.

On an average, 200 applications for driving licence in each district are received every day. The summary says Punjab Police would get more than Rs700 million through the process.
