ISLAMABAD:

Writers and scholars at a gathering on Monday praised the literary contributions of late poets Nasir Kazmi and Shaikh Ayaz to Urdu and Sindhi languages respectively.

Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) paid rich tributes to Kazmi on his 43rd death anniversary and Sindhi poet Ayaz on his 92nd birth anniversary.

Punjabi poet Ahmed Saleem said the poetry of Ayaz and Kazmi was an ensemble of struggle and effort.

Poet Manzar Naqvi commented that Kazmi held a high stature in Urdu literature adding “he injects human feelings in his poetry, artistically.”

Talking about Ayaz, Naqvi remarked that the Sindhi poet empowered ghazals.

“GM Syed, Sobho Gianchandani, Hassamudin Qureshi and Ibrahim Joyo also played a role in disseminating Ayaz’s poetry and thought,” Saleem said.

“Ayaz’s prose and poetry is indeed, a deal of joy, pain and wonder,” he added.

Besides, speakers said that Ayaz, both in his poetry and actions, was a great crusader against social injustice and other social and economic ills.
