KARACHI:

Globally renowned model Jessica Minh Anh will strut on the J Spring Fashion Show 2015 runway on Hudson River, New York, in Pakistani designer Syeda Amera’s designed outfit. The Express Tribune spoke to both the ladies about their latest undertaking. All set to ensue in March 2015, both the model and the designer seemed to be very keyed up about the enthused project.

Talking about the J Spring Fashion Show 2015, the model explains, “I believe the most outstanding designs should be presented at the best of locations. A floating catwalk on the Hudson river with the panoramic view of the city will show the combination of fashion and New York perfectly.” The aspect of the background constantly shifting throughout the show will make it more dynamic and fascinating to audiences, she feels. “To me, it’s all about mixing art, architecture, culture and fashion. Being able to provide creative talents a platform to shine and the world a chance to acknowledge them is very special to me.”

Discussing her career trajectory as a global fashion show organiser and model, Minh Anh says, “To me, it is very important to enjoy every moment of the job, whether it is modelling or producing a show from venue confirmation, designer selection, model casting, to PR and guest list arrangement.” Transforming the world’s iconic venues into tasteful catwalks is a piece of cake for the fashionista. “I love discovering new catwalk concepts and working with the most innovative people. I am driven by the idea of creating and inspiring people to follow their passion,” she says.

On being probed as to why she chose Pakistani designer Syeda Amera for the picturesque show, she reveals, “Syeda’s outfits truly embody the elegance of a woman while giving her that bold edge. This is solely why I decided to showcase her collection at the J Spring Fashion Show 2015.” The ensemble that has stunning shades of aqua and blue also boasts dynamic patterns. Describing the collection further, Minh Anh adds, “Syeda Amera’s pieces are ultra-feminine and unique. I like the glittery beads, sequined texture, and transparency in her designs.”

On whether she thinks Pakistani fashion has the potential to be globalised, she responds, “Asian designers in general and Pakistani designers in particular have mastered the innovative techniques of combining traditional motifs and materials with contemporary styles. This makes the collections a lot more attractive and exotic.” Adding to her statement, she says, “I do believe Pakistani fashion has a great potential in penetrating global fashion. It is of course up to individual designers to make their mark in the world by being innovative, unique, and bold.”

Talking about her career route, Amera says, “Becoming a fashion designer was the beginning of an exciting journey of hard work, creativity and tenacity.” She launched her label in 2008 and apart from doing fashion shows in Pakistan, she has participated in Pakistan Fashion Week USA, which took place in New York in 2014. “I never dreamt about success, I worked for it and showcasing our collection in the iconic J spring Fashion show 2015 is a dream come true for me.” Discussing her future prospects, the designer says, “Our main step in the coming years would definitely be catering to the international market and to represent Pakistani culture wherever we exhibit our brand.”

Describing the collection and her designs that are to be exhibited at the J Spring fashion show, she says, “The fabrics used are premium quality net, silk and jersey. All these looks are spiced up in ultra-sassy shades of blue. The designs are weaved to cater to an international market.”

On how her latest collection differs and stands out from her preceding ones, she notes, “We have showcased a number of designs so far from bright colourful prêt to long embellished gowns and have paid special attention that our new collection is different.” Adding on, she says, “This time around, there’ll be a lot of different cuts with a diverse colour theme teamed with unique embellishments on every dress.”
