Woman among three ‘swindlers’ arrested

Alleged swindlers arrested for purchasing electronics items worth hundreds of rupees with fake US dollars.

ISLAMABAD: The city police on Tuesday arrested three alleged swindlers including a woman for purchasing electronics items worth hundreds of rupees with fake US dollars.

Muhammad Jawad Qureshi, a cashier at Sony Center in Super Market, had lodged a complaint with the police that three people had purchased two laptops and a digital camera worth $ 4000 from their shop. They had made the payment in US dollars but the currency notes were found fake on scrutiny later on. The Kohsar area police registered a case and started investigations. On Tuesday, a police team headed by SHO Munawar Mehr managed to arrest the three persons while they were trying to sell the laptops they had purchased with the fake dollars.

‘We obtained their CCTV footage and gave the numbers of the Sony laptops at all retailers in Blue Area,” SHO Mehr said.

When the suspects come to sell the laptops at one of the shops, the shopkeeper informed the police. The suspects escaped from the scene when the police arrived at the shop but were arrested and shifted to Kohsar Police station.

Police said Musarat Jehan Khan and Irfan, mother and son, were residents of Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while their third accomplice Kashif Hussain who was serving as their driver as well was the resident of Abbottabad.

During investigations, the suspects confessed of making purchases on fake dollars. They also admitted that they had purchased different items worth Rs2, 50,000 from D Watson shop in Blue area.
