KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain appealed on Saturday to army chief General Raheel Sharif for a fair investigation into the Baldia factory fire case, Express News reported.

The MQM chief asked the army chief to constitute an investigative team comprising of military officers to probe the deadly blaze which killed more than 259 factory workers.

“A special chowk (roundabout) should be formed where those responsible for the fire should be hanged,” Altaf further said.

Earlier, the Rangers placed the blame of the Baldia factory fire on the MQM in a report submitted to the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday.

They claimed that some members of the party were linked to the deadly fire. In the report submitted to a division bench of the SHC, law enforcers had claimed that they had arrested a man in connection to the industrial fire and during the interrogation he had identified himself as an MQM worker.

However, the MQM had called the JIT report, submitted by the Rangers to the Sindh High Court over the Baldia factory fire, as propaganda against the party and decided to challenge it in court.

Ibrar | 9 years ago | Reply He rejected the JIT report and, among many other absurd and laughable declarations, is asking for foreign probe....UN etc. He obviously does not believe in the country's justice system if its decisions do not favour him. He must know his demand for foreign intervention is highly inappropriate and nothing other than the product of his irrational and eccentric mind and will not be accepted. Yet from now and again he keeps repeating the same nonsense because he believes by making such noises would make him appear more credible and that Pakistani law will shy away. And that eventually a compromise with other politicians would extricate him from this quagmire.
Bobb Mack | 9 years ago | Reply @bash gul: Mohajirs are our brothers and sisters and own Pakistan as much as any one else. Their migration to Pakistan was a blessing, still is and will always be. Sadly some destructive elements, with no love for the immigrants, also crossed over. Altaf Hussain seems the perfect example of a destructive pedigree. People say he has become the epicentre of every evil activity in Karachi. The impression is that, if required, he is even prepared to kill his close associate.Yet the irony is that he is almost worshiped by the many sections of Urdu speaking community. I think the time has come that, in order to dilute his damaging influence, his true face is revealed to Pakistanis, particularly people of Sind and the world. The government of Pakistan should seek his extradition and investigate him for his alleged crimes....at the same time supporting those Mohajirs who have suffered because of his sinful politics. This would of course require that those who seek to punish him should have enough credibility to deliver justice.
