Model town violence: Govt given last chance to reply

LAHORE: Lahore High Court expressed displeasure on Wednesday over the delay in the provincial government’s reply to a petition demanding release of the judicial inquiry report into the Model Town violence. A bench comprising Justice Anwarul Haq, Justice Abdul Sattar Asghar and Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan was hearing the petitions. An additional advocate general sought more time to submit a reply. The bench observed that the government had been putting off its reply for eight months.  Justice Khan observed that by not making the inquiry report public the government appeared to be trying to protect those responsible for the violence. The bench gave the government a last chance to file a reply and adjourned hearing till March 3.  Petitions seeking directions to make the inquiry report public have been filed by Idara-i-Minhajul Quran.
