The Lahore Transport Company receives a daily subsidy of Rs0.5 million for 40 to 50 “ghost” buses supposedly run on various routes in the city, Pakistan Awami Tehreek said in a white paper on corruption in the LTC.
PAT provincial president Basharat Jaspal launched the paper on Wednesday. He demanded a third-party audit of LTC’s finances and said the PAT was the public a great service by exposing the government’s corruption.
“Various government officials receive kickbacks worth Rs80 million each month,” the paper alleges. The company was being run by an MNA’s nephew who receives Rs700,000 as salary apart from other benefits. The paper says he was appointed even though he did not have the requisite experience for the position.
