LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge sought comments from the Shahdara SHO on a petition by a man seeking registration of a case against his wife whom he accuses of “taking his money to support her vagabond brother”. Petitioner Muhammad Zaman said he was married to Shazia Bibi and had three children with her.

He said that he was a vegetable vendor and had a hard time making ends meet. However, his wife frequently gave his “hard-earned money” to her brother Akram Ali who was unemployed. Zaman said he and his family had told her several times not to do so but she did not listen. “I work like an animal all day and manage to make barely enough for my children to get by,” he said. “I never signed up to support my in-laws.” Zaman said when he had scolded his wife she had threatened him with dire consequences. He said that he had gone to the Shahdara police to file a complaint against his wife but the SHO had not entertained his request. He requested the court to direct the SHO to register a case in this regard.
