PESHAWAR: The Gems and Gemological Institute of Pakistan (GGIP) on Thursday sought active support of commercial counsellors for exploring new avenues through effective marketing and promotion of a variety of gemstones abroad in order to earn foreign exchange for the country. Official sources in the GGIP said that Pakistan was home to many varieties of gem minerals, which are very popular, and the country’s rich potential could be constructively tapped through effective international marketing besides finding out new avenues to attract foreign investment. They said that Pakistani embassies, consulates and the national airline could play a constructive role by highlighting the country’s rich gems mineral potential around the globe. The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) has prepared a feasibility study for the promotion of gems with the objective to attract people.
