Targeted raids: Police arrest murderer, TTP associate and seven others

One suspect, a former policeman, was arrested from Sharae Faisal.

KARACHI: The police claim to have apprehended at least nine suspects, including a former personnel from the Frontier Constabulary (FC) and police, during targeted raids and operations around the city.

These arrests were disclosed during a press conference by the district East SSP Pir Muhammad Shah at his office on Wednesday afternoon.

The SSP said that the suspects were arrested during raids conducted by the police in district East.

He added that a total of nine suspects, allegedly wanted for extortion, murder and street crimes were arrested from Sharae Faisal, Ferozabad and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

The suspects, he claimed, included four street criminals, three extortionists and a man associated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. Eight pistols and two hand grenades were also seized from them.

One of the suspects was identified as Noor Saeed. He was arrested from Gulshan-e-Iqbal and according to Shah, had joined the FC in 1980. He retired in 1998 and is accused of providing logistical support to the Taliban.

Another suspect identified as Abid was identified as a former policeman.

He was arrested from Sharae Faisal. SSP Shah said that he had joined the police force in 1996 but was dismissed from the department for being involved in criminal activities.

Ilyas, another suspect, was arrested for killing his friend and dumping the body at his house in Gulshan-e-Iqbal a few days ago.
