KARACHI: Three suspected criminals were killed in separate encounters with the police in different parts of the city on Tuesday.

An alleged criminal was killed during an encounter with the police in Pehlwan Goth, Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Sharae Faisal police claimed that the encounter took place during a raid conducted at a hideout on a tip-off. Upon seeing the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire and tried to escape. One of them was killed in the retaliatory fire. The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. He was later identified as Iftikhar Bangash.

Gulshan-e-Iqbal SP Abid Qaimkhani said that besides robbery and street crime, Bangash was also wanted for the murders of policemen.

Earlier, a suspected gangster was killed during an alleged encounter with the police in Mauripur. Police officials claimed the encounter took place during a raid at the gangsters’ hideout. After an exchange of fire, one of the gangsters was killed while at least two others managed to escape. The body was taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi, for autopsy, where he was identified as Nawaz. SHO Ejaz Mughal claimed that the deceased gangster was associated with Lyari’s Sheraz Comrade group. Police also recovered two Awan bombs and two pistols from him.

Separately, a suspected street criminal was killed during an alleged encounter with the police near the Mauripur truck stand. According to police officials, two motorcyclists were trying to escape after looting a transporter when a police patrol reached the site. One of them, Sadiq Ali Shah, was killed in the exchange of fire while the other managed to flee.
