The government has decided to launch a comprehensive polio drive in the coming week, stated a handout issued on Saturday.

The campaign will simultaneously inoculate children in both the province and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). The decision was taken during a meeting held in Islamabad with Chief Minister Pervez Khattak in the chair.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, Minister for Health Shahram Khan Tarakai, chief secretary, secretary health, secretary home and tribal affairs and FATA Secretariat officials attended the meeting. Participants were informed the 11 Corps of Pakistan Army has assured to provide security during the drive.

During his address, Imran Khan said the campaign is a joint effort of the provincial and federal governments, adding political differences will not hamper their resolve to battle poliovirus. The first phase of the drive will commence from the coming week in Swabi district.
