Stranded: Snowfall halts traffic on Lowari Tunnel

Heavy snowfall was experienced in various parts of the valley.

A large number of trucks, passenger vans and cars were stuck on both sides of Lowari Tunnel on Sunday due to another spell of snowfall and rain in the area.


Insiders familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune heavy snowfall in Chitral had left over 180 trucks, laden with goods, stuck at the tunnel. Passengers have also suffered due to poor traffic management at Lowari Tunnel. The authorities are taking initiatives to ensure the trucks and passenger vans stuck in the tunnel are safely removed. However, no vehicles had been removed till this report was filed.

Meanwhile, a fresh wave of snow and rain lashed Swat Valley on Sunday. Heavy snowfall was experienced in various parts of the valley, including Malam Jabba, Kalam and Bahrain. Snow-capped mountains in the region attracted a large number of tourists.
