Two people were injured and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were stolen in various incidents of street crime in Gujranwala on Thursday.
A police spokesman said some men on a motorbike had tried to stop Arshad, a resident of Shakargarh, when he was returning from a pharmacy. He said when he did not stop, the men fired shots at him. They said Arshad was injured. He was taken to a hospital by some passers by.
Separately, two men on a motorcycle stopped a police volunteer, Shahid, in Rauf Baathwala. They took away his motorbike, mobile phone and Rs10,000. They also beat him for resisting. The robbers then fled, leaving the injured man behind.
In another incident, two robbers took away Rs50,000 and three mobile phones from a rickshaw driver Shehbaz and escaped.
Meanwhile, cousins Tauqeer and Atif were closing their shop in Mohalla Jalalpur when three men on two motorbikes held them up and took away three mobile phones and Rs13,000.
Separately, three men scaled the wall of a shop near Hajipura on Sialkot Road and stole spares worth Rs125,000. In another incident in the same area, goods worth Rs200,000 were stolen from a mobile phone shop. Police have registered separate cases.
