High standards: Citizens want good governance, says Sarwar

Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said on Tuesday that citizens expected good governance and result-oriented service delivery to redress their problems.


He was speaking to participants of a country study tour of ASPs (UT) 41st Specialized Training Programme at the Governor’s House. Governor Sarwar said that good governance was the only panacea for institutional problems plaguing the nation.

He said that public service in general and policing in particular was a challenging duty that ought to be performed with passion and diligence. Governor Sarwar said that the officers had chosen this line of duty by exercising their free will. He told them that their professional careers had the potential of being immensely satisfying and spiritually rewarding.  He said Pakistan had the potential of becoming a great and prosperous country. Governor Sarwar stressed the resilience of the nation on the occasion. He said the nation had persevered through trials and tribulations and had always managed to overcome the challenges confronting it. Governor Sarwar said that he was confident that the nation would remain strong, spirited, and steadfast. He told the officials that they would constitute the backbone of law enforcement in the nation. Governor Sarwar impressed on them the need to focus on learning about and understanding various issues to sagaciously comprehend challenges that could confront them.



Governor Sarwar advised the officers to employ the method of critical appraisal and implement alternative strategies and pragmatic solutions after taking charge of their future assignments. He urged them to discharge duties with compassion, diligence and empathy irrespective of their nature of duty.
Governor Sarwar said that it was necessary to induct professional, gifted and determined citizens to take the nation forward.
He also quoted a few words by Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on the occasion.

Later, the delegation also met the IGP.

Punjab Police are making all possible efforts to implement the National Action Plan against terrorism, Inspector General Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera said.

Sukhera said that the country was passing through a critical time. “Police officers should be honest, vigilant and professional.
Various steps have been taken to improve the investigation system, to change the thana culture, to eliminate corruption and to enhance the capacity of the police force,” the IGP said.

AIG (Finance) Hussain Habib Imtiaz told the delegation that the total strength of Punjab Police was 179,921.
This included nine RPOs, four CPOs, 31 DPOs, 162 SDPOs and 708 SHOs. The delegation thanked the IGP and other officials for the briefing.



Additional Welfare and Finance IGP Sohail Khan, Additional Investigation IGP Tariq Masood Yasin, Training DIG Saad Akhter Bherwana, Headquarters DIG Farooq Mazhar, Lahore Operations DIG Dr Haider Ashraf, Administration and Security AIG Zubair Dreshak and PSO to IGP Tariq Rustam Cauhan were also present on this occasion.
