ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a case against a former chief executive officer (CEO) of an oil company for submitting a false affidavit to Peshawar High Court (PHC).

Tashfeen Qayyum, the suspect, was booked by Sabzi Mandi police for firing on a police team in 2010. He allegedly submitted a false affidavit to obtain bail from PHC circuit bench Abbottabad and has fled the country.

PHC had directed the FIA to register a case against Qayyum after Kifayatullah Khattak petitioned the court to initiate criminal proceedings against Qayyum for submitting false affidavit and concealing facts from the court.

FIA says the suspect fled the country on November 25, 2014, without the permission of the court.

Tashfeen Qayyum, who was the CEO at the Eastern Testing Services, was accused of firing at police at the company premises. The case lodged by Sabzi Mandi SHO Inspector Asjad Mehmood says the suspects present inside the company opened fire on the police party when they announced their arrival and asked to open the company gates. Following the encounter, the police arrested 14 men and seized weapons from their possession, the police said.

Qayyum was allegedly removed from the company in 2011.

SPDPD Irum Abbasi, who was the investigation officer of the case, said that Qayyum and Khattak had a clash at the company. Abbasi said that both had a history of conflict and lodged several criminal cases against one another.

She further said that according to the Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) record Qayyum was still the president of the company.

On the other hand, Khattak accused Abbasi of favouring Qayyum in the inquiry.

“Irum Abbasi gave favour to the suspect under the influence of her relative Yasir Abbasi, who is a friend of Qayyum’s brother-in-law,” Khattak alleged.

“I’m not a party to it,” Abbasi said while responding to the allegations, adding that she worked as per the mandate given to her and proposed things on the basis of the findings.

Qayyum could not be reached for comments.
